 2023-2024 Class Content & Topics:
English: 
Parts of speech, elements of literature: plot, setting, conflict, etc., fiction and nonfiction reading, comprehension skills, use evidence to support claims, how authors develop ideas and writing style, and examining similarities and differences in styles of writing across multiple texts.
Social Studies:
The early river valley civilizations in Mesopotamia and Sumer, ancient Egypt, classical Greece, ancient Rome, India and China empires, African civilizations, and the earliest Americans.

Writing:
Multi-paragraph essay writing, learning APA and MLA citation, writing assignments designed to utilize new vocabulary in proper context, using proper capitalization and punctuation, making use of rubrics and graphic organizers to help develop and create strong writing pieces.

Math:
Fractions and mixed numbers, decimals and percentages, solving one and two step equations, basic graphing of linear equations, word problems, functional math with money skills.

The Scientific Method, measurement and safety, scientific maps and models of the Earth, minerals of the Earth's crust, rock types and formations, fossil records, energy resources, tectonic plates, and Earthquakes/Volcano's/Tsunamis.  

Daily Living-Life Skills:
Time management skills, transportation: options/signs/schedules/laws, job searching and workplace etiquette, choosing a career and the path to get there, appropriate behavior and attitude for the workplace, consumer buying-smart shopping, credit line and financing, health & wellness, nutrition, first aid and safety,

Classroom Rules:

Below outlines our plans for each class throughout the week. This is subject to change due to field trips, guest speakers, projects, movies, cooking/baking, and make-up days. The schedule below indicates when progress checks will be performed to ensure students are meeting standards, goals and objectives. This schedule also shows when supplemental resources (part of the SDI-Special Designed Instruction) will be put into Google Classroom and what day assignments for the week will be graded and put into eschool/Google Classroom.
